I suppose now would be the time to consider organising something alright. Wouldnt it be great if we managed to set up a few events around the world and link up via webcam?
wow!...I'm somewhat of a technological luddite myself, so global events and webcams etc are beyond my understanding. In general, the idea of a memorial event both scares and intrigues me. I would be interested to hear what anyone else thinks about this. What about you, Mr Hillarby? would you consider being involved in such a venture?
I don't know about the logistics, but a concert/TV show featuring some of John's famous friends (David Gilmour, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, etc),maybe some of those influenced by him and of course Arrun, Alan and Spenser would be great. May be a special edition of Later? Jools Holland always seemed to be a fan...
Something must happen, but should it be on the anniversary of his passing? His birthday is September 11th and he would want a celebration of that more, wouldn't he? Whilst the world focuses on the 9/11 hysteria, us Martynites could resonate in his memory. However I must say I find John Martyn covers often painful,no disrespect to the performer. However if you watch/listen to the Concert For George Harrison you can see how good it could be. It must be done for the right reason, by the right people and not for profit. Food for thought...
Well I already have some idea as to what i would like to do on a personal level. I have all of Johns albums on vinyl from the earliest up to the latest and will be having an evening of good company, all of his music, and good drink in one of his favourite haunts here in Ireland. understated but fitting.
I think that a service in a Cathedral would be fitting & all those mentioned above should be present. John's Life should be celebrated. His Funeral was a private affair for understandable reasons but his fans have had no organised event to pay their respects
Does anybody know if Willing To Work is going to be released ? The great man said he was putting the finishing touches to it, shortly before he died. I have been eagerly waiting to hear his last parting songs .Hopefully one day.........................?
Anyone thinking about organising an event to commemorate John next Jan 29th?
ReplyDeleteI would help.

ReplyDeleteAnyone got access to Jools Holland to sound him out? If not I could try.
